I don’t know how many times I’ve watched Good Morning America, saw an author being interviewed and thought, “I’ve got to remember this author so I can remember to check them out later”. Then, inevitably, I’d forget their name by the end of the next set of commercials. It’s a bummer, and I’ve missed out on several potentially interesting reads. But thanks to CoverCake and a Boopsie library app, this scenario will no longer be an issue.
The CoverCake integration offered by Boopsie automatically refreshes twice a week and provides their users with titles of popular books from select authors who have appeared on certain talk and news shows. There are several programs to choose from, including The Daily Show, The View and NPR. There are also links to blogs and book clubs, like the Huffington Post and The Oprah Book Club.
The best part about the CoverCake integration is that you don’t have to download any apps to access these lists; the integration is seamlessly connected to the library app. All you have to do is access the integration to see a listing of popular news and talk shows, then choose the book you heard about. As an added bonus, the integration is connected with your library’s ILS, so you can quickly place the item on hold, or download an electronic version of the book, if they are available.
In the screenshot from York County Libraries‘ CoverCake integration, you can see some of the recent authors or books mentioned on the NPR program, Fresh Air. The integration uses the ISBN from the books to perform a catalog search for you, just like you would see with BookLook Mobile™. If you were to select “Five Came Back” by Mark Harris, the app would use the ISBN to search York County Libraries’ holdings. If the library has the book, you can select the book and proceed to place the item on hold like you would if you were checking out the book.
Although, their logo of a cupcake popping out of book should be more than enough to make one want to use the integration.
