What is hoopla digital?
hoopla digital provides a digital audiovisual collection to their subscribers. Patrons are able to stream or temporarily download movies, music, eAudioBooks and TV shows, for free, through their library’s subscription.
What does the hoopla digital integration with Boopsie’s mobile platform do?
Through hoopla’s partnership with Boopsie, library patrons using library-branded mobile apps utilize Boopsie’s proprietary App Finder technology to seamlessly access the hoopla digital mobile app and content directly from their library’s app. If the patron has already downloaded the hoopla mobile app on their smartphone or tablet, the user will automatically be sent directly into the hoopla app. However, first time users will be automatically directed to the app store appropriate for their device, so they can automatically download and use the hoopla app. Use of Boopsie’s App Finder not only drives increased downloads for hoopla, it provides users with a pleasant experience which increases their use of the hoopla services being offered by their library.
What are the benefits of having a hoopla digital integration?
Library patrons love it. In St. Louis County Library, Boopsie is already delivering over 1000 new hoopla users per month to hoopla digital. These patrons were already using other library services provided by St. Louis County Library via their mobile app, but did not yet have access to hoopla.
Memorial Hall Library began offering hoopla services via their mobile app in May, and has received a three-fold increase in hoopla usage since then. The integration appears “above the fold”, meaning patrons don’t have to scroll down to access the channel, nor do they have to click an extra time on an e-Resources channel. A single extra click can cause up to 40% of users to abandon their mobile discovery efforts. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library offers the hoopla integration to their patrons as well, but the channel appears below-the-fold, requiring app users to scroll to see the integration. In contrast, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library has received a two-fold increase in the usage of hoopla services via its mobile app since May.
It’s no surprise that there is a steady stream of app users accessing the hoopla integration. Like Netflix and Hulu Plus services, hoopla generates activity because of the ease of access to popular movies and TV shows, but for free!
