OverDrive is one of Boopsie’s most popular content partner integrations—74% of the libraries utilizing Boopsie’s mobile platform offer the OverDrive integration to their patrons. Across the thousands of library locations that Boopsie serves, OverDrive is the third most used app-channel, only preceded by the “My Account” channel and the library’s catalog. The OverDrive API on just one of Boopsie’s library apps has already processed over 10,000 queries to the OverDrive eBook database.
Heavy use of the OverDrive-Boopsie mobile integration originates from the seamless user experience. Boopsie successfully transferred most of its libraries to the new OverDrive API, which allows OverDrive users to access their downloaded eBooks and eAudioBooks without generating a cumbersome Adobe ID, taking multiple steps out of the process, and reducing the percentage of users who abandon the checkout process. Users of OverDrive in Boopsie’s library-branded mobile apps can now simply log into their OverDrive account after selecting an available title, select the book from their account and automatically launch the OverDrive Media Console.
Boopsie and OverDrive have worked together to integrate OverDrive’s revolutionary embedded reader on Apple and Android mobile devices. Users of Boopsie apps with OverDrive eBook integrations will be able to seamlessly read their OverDrive eBooks right from their library-branded app, without being required to download the OverDrive Media Console or any type of third party reader. A user can simply select the book they want to read, log in to their OverDrive account, and then select the title in their “My OverDrive Account”. Boopsie expects the improved user experience to more than double checkouts of OverDrive eBooks. Screenshots of the streamlined embedded reader user experience are below.
This embedded reader feature is OverDrive Read, an online reader from OverDrive that allows you to read EPUB eBooks in your web browser. The service allows users to read eBooks across all platforms and sync between devices while they are connected to the Internet. OverDrive Read doesn’t affect the eBooks and eAudioBooks a patron already has checked out; it simply provides a simplified vehicle for eBook delivery.
If you’re attending ALA’s Annual Conference, be sure to visit Boopsie and OverDrive at their booths, 2032 and 1317, respectively. There are several new features that will be demonstrated at both booths.
