I recently saw a photo posted on Facebook where a bookstore had a display dedicated to the question “I don’t remember the title, but it’s blue”. I laughed at the statement and thought of other vague questions I had heard while at the library like, “I was watching [insert talk show] the other day and they reviewed this one book/interviewed an author. I can’t remember the title or the author”, which isn’t an uncommon question. There are also patrons who like to keep up with the latest Oprah Book Club novels, but are unable to remember their titles. If the librarian isn’t familiar with the program or forgot the information as well, they can search around on the program’s websites and hope that the program’s book review lists are easily searchable, or they could launch CoverCake in their library app.
As we reviewed previously, CoverCake provides an easy access listing of Books-as-Seen-on-TV. Library staff and patrons can access listings of recently mentioned titles by select TV and radio shows, awards and prize winning titles, book clubs, blogs and Best Seller lists. CoverCake refreshes twice a week and if the title is available at your library, the integration provides links to the item in your catalog. To try out an interactive demo, check out the York County Libraries app page, or visit york.boopsie.com from your smartphone or tablet to download the app today.
The best thing is that CoverCake is extremely easy to use; in just a few steps you can find the as-seen-on-tv book and place it on hold (when available):
CoverCake provides a fun way to keep up with social media as well; libraries can leverage their collection against books that are mentioned on TV. So when NPR’s All Things Considered airs another author interview or a new book is added to the Oprah Book Club list, you can quickly use your smartphone or tablet to find the title, then post it on your website, social media network or blog to create a buzz about the book or author.
If you are interested in adding CoverCake to your library app, send us an email and we can go over the details with you.
